Our hearts go out to all who have been infected by COVID-19 and those whose lives have been disrupted by this pandemic. We are particularly concerned about the significant impacts this public health crisis is likely to have on our nation’s child care and early learning programs, including educators, families, and children. A message from the deaeyc Executive Committee and Executive Director
As a community, we are facing an unprecedented time as we work to keep our communities safe and healthy in the face of the coronavirus. Delawareans are joining millions across the world in confronting decisions that we’ve never had to face. At this time, the Delaware Association for the Education of Young Children, (deaeyc) office in Newark will close temporarily to allow employees to continue their work remotely. We value the health and safety of our staff and those we serve and will continue to provide quality customer service during this time.
We know this is a difficult time, and we are working hard to make sure we continue to support the children and families in Delaware in any way we can. We want to assure everyone that we are working to make this as seamless a transition as possible. To that end, NAEYC has just issued an important statement regarding the unprecedented public health crisis we are facing as a nation. We encourage you to use this in your local, state, territory and district advocacy efforts as we address the crisis impacting ECE center and home based programs, and for our colleagues who are on the front lines providing high-quality early learning, care and support of our nation’s youngest citizens and their families.
It is an opportunity to contribute to building Delaware back up, and it is an opportunity to convert the fear and heartbreak of the last few weeks into hope and action. Ours is an important voice. We need to take the responsibility of raising it.
Now is the time to come together to do what’s best for the health and safety of all Delawareans. We are with you and will continue to communicate in the coming days and encourage you to visit our social media pages for more information and updates on this transition.
