In celebration of the Week of the Young Child, the Delaware Readiness Teams will be implementing many activities to promote high quality early learning! Here is a run down of the teams participating, and a day-by-day schedule of  the events and activities happening throughout Delaware.

Monday April 13th, 2015

    • South Dover
      •  Team is partnering with local radio stations to provide an announcement on “getting children ready” with a literacy focus.
    •  Caple Henlopen Community Readiness Team
      •  The team will distribute bags with readiness materials and resource information to their local pediatrician offices for children 3 to 5 years old.  These bags contain crayons, book, healthy snack, information about 2015 summer bookmobile, and other community resources
    • Claymont Community Readiness Team
      • Music Monday – Music School of Delaware will offer 1/2 hour program at Claymont Library for 2 in-home child care programs – Not open to public
    •  Mt. Pleasant Partnership Delaware Readiness Team
      • Children in Bloom – At 10:00am on Thursday, April 12th (weather permitting), these flowers will be “planted” by the children along the playground fence and front of Mt. Pleasant Elementary School, the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant and Preschool, and Bellevue Community Center. This should be an impressive display of approximately 750 flowers, representing the investment we have in young children (ages 0-8) in our area early care and elementary schools.

 

 Tuesday April 14th, 2015

    • HUBCAP
      • Kid Kits Donated to Harrington Library- Kid Kits are developmentally appropriate subject specific bags that families can check out of the library to learn and play at home. Kid Kits include books, toys, games, puzzles, and a detailed Idea Card on how they can utilize what is in the bag or other items they may have at home to engage their child in learning.
    • South Dover
      • South Dover Community Readiness Team’s radio interviews are scheduled for Tuesday morning 7:25, 7:40, and 11:00 (WILM/WDOV/WDSD)

 

Wednesday April 15th, 2015

    • Claymont Community Readiness Team
      • Wellness Wednesday – Jitterbugs program will expand its scheduled program at the Claymont Public Library to engage families and child care programs in a 1/2 hour of music movement and story time activities with nutrition theme. Registration is required to attend.
    • NESSE – NorthEast Safe Strong & Engaged Delaware Readiness Team
      • Honoring Parents for Involvement in Child’s Life – The NESSE team is honoring about 15 parents at Kingswood Commuity Center for their involvement in the FACET program which is parents from their child care that work together to enhance their preschoolers lives. 6:00 p.m. Kingswood Community Center
    • First District Success Partnership
      • Family Night at the North Wilmington Library at 6:00 p.m. to encourage families to spend time together and focus on literacy. Also there will be an opportunity for Kindergarten registration.
    • Center City Wilmington Readiness Team
      • Learning Walks- Learning Walks brings together pre-k and kindergarten teachers from Kuumba, Gallaher Elementary, Christina Pre-School Arts Academy and Teach for America during the school day in a pioneering approach to professional development and relationship cultivation. Learning Walks are designed to build bridges between early learning teachers and elementary teachers, to share best practices and to move towards aligned objectives to further the common goal of helping children enter kindergarten ready.

 

Thursday April 16th, 2015

      • Bedtime/Story time Reading Event, Capital District Office 6:30 p.m. (302) 672-1500
    • Center City Wilmington Delaware Readiness Team
      • Bancroft Elementary School Parent Resource Center 8:30AM East Side Community School, Children & Families First & CCW Readiness Team
      • Kindergarten Showcase, STEM & Family Fun Night Gallaher Elementary, Stubbs & Palmer Elementary 5:00-7:30PM
    • Seaford
      • Training Event in Partnership with Stars for Early Learning Providers and Kindergarten Teachers. Early Learning Providers will have the opportunity to dine with Kindergarten teachers to open communication between Early Learning Providers and Kindergarten Teachers. ELPs will then partake in a roundtable discussion to learn more about STARS and receive OCCL hours. They will also receive a voucher to a free quality assured training the following week on April 23.
    • Milford Community Readiness Team
      • Training The Week of the Young Child Team Event with Clem Bowen will be held on Thursday, April 16th at Morris Elementary from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.

 

Friday April 17th, 2015

    • Claymont Community Readiness Team
      • Friday Family – Team will offer craft activity at the Claymont Public Library giving adults an opportunity to create with their child, celebrate their family and engage in playful activity. Registration required to attend.
    • North Dover
      • Family Paint Night- North Dover Elementary children ages 2-7, 6:00 -7:30 p.m.
